About The Speaker
Sergi Jordà is a Catalan innovator, computer scientist, music technology and AI researcher, professor, musician, media artist and entrepreneur, with more than three decades experience in research, education, and media creation. He is professor at the ICT department of Universitat Pompeu Fabra and researcher in its Music Technology Group.
With a background in music, physics and computer science, his singular and multidisciplinary professional career has been shaped by his long-term passion for music and artistic creativity and scientific research, and the desire to intertwine these elements in innovative ways.
He has published more than 120 papers and four books, performed, and given conferences in four continents, and received many international awards (such as the Ars Electronica’s Golden Nica and two D&AD Yellow Pencils). He is best known for being one of the creators of the Reactable, a musical instrument that gained massive popularity after being part of Icelandic artist Björk’s world tour Volta.
His current research agenda addresses the application of artificial intelligence and deep learning techniques into computational music creativity, and the study of the effects of music on sleep, through musicology, neuroscience, psychology and computer science.
