Panel: “Music Sups in the content era: the new global A&R?“

17:30 - 18:10 · Thursday 13th September 2018

“Breaking artists through sync”

The media and advertisement landscape is changing at the speed of light. Multiplication of screens, hybrid and new formats, 360 campaigns, and numerous original angles are deployed to engage with an audience that live under content overabundance. Music placements and strategies in advertisement are also evolving and getting more sophisticated, and the role of the Music Supervisor is changing accordingly. A “good placement” is not enough anymore for projects that are seeking to gain organic virality and traction. Bespoke covers, unsigned upcoming acts, unexpected collaborations or custom remixes/edits are now a central part of the music licensing business, helping to give visibility and sometimes even break acts or songs and get them signed on a label/publisher afterwards. So, is the Music Supervisor the new A&R for the content era?
